"Christ the Lord is Risen Today" by Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Translated by Text From: THE LUTHERAN HYMNAL (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1941) 1. Christ the Lord is risen today, Sons of men and angels say. Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heavens, and, earth, reply. 2. Love's redeeming work is done, Fought the fight, the battle won. Lo, our Sun's eclipse is o'er; Lo, He sets in blood no more. 3. Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ has burst the gates of hell. Death in vain forbids His rise; Christ has opened Paradise. 4. Lives again our glorious King; Where, 0 Death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save; Where thy victory, O Grave? 5. Soar we now where Christ has led, Following our exalted Head. Made like Him, like Him we rise; Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 6. Hail the Lord of earth and heaven! Praise to Thee by both be given! Thee we greet triumphant now: Hail, the Resurrection Thou! ________________________________________________ Notes: Hymn #193 from _The Lutheran Hymnal_ Text: 1 Cor.15:57 Author: Charles Wesley, 1739, cento Tune: "Orientis partibus" Melody: French, c. 1200, ad. ______________________________________________________________ This text was converted to ascii format for Project Wittenberg by Cindy A.
